NY OMH Bronx Mental Health Redevelopment
The New York State Office of Mental Health is transforming the Bronx Psychiatric Center into a modern 35-acre campus with new treatment facilities and a state-of-the-art Adult Behavioral Healthcare Center. The firm provided civil, geotechnical, environmental, structural, and electrical engineering design services for the campus infrastructure. Under contract with the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), STV designed all site work including stormwater management systems; and utilities, as well as primary electrical power to serve six new buildings. STV’s landscape design provided wayfinding and perimeter screening using sustainable plants. Design also entailed new entrances, roadways, parking lots, and shaded pedestrian pathways. The design incorporated sustainable practices in line with the goal to achieve LEED® certification to the Silver level. The centerpiece of the overall campus redevelopment is the 156-bed Adult Behavioral Health Center. The redevelopment of the campus is also benefiting the surrounding community economically.
NY OGS South Beach Psychiatric Center - Central Services Building
The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) and New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) are developing a new residential building for OMH’s South Beach Psychiatric Center that can withstand the wind damage it sustained during Superstorm Sandy while providing modern patient care.
STV provided architectural and engineering services for the 261-bed project, and improved the flood resilience of the 288-acre campus. The firm designed the residence to provide a more normative living environment that supports the center’s client-centered team approach to patient care. Large, floor-to-ceiling glazing and high ceilings will allow abundant natural light into the treatment areas, lobbies, and public corridors. The design team incorporated interior design features such as a “Main Street” concept. The new residence is designed to be LEED® Silver certified. Located within a marshland rated as FEMA’s highest risk flood zone, the yards and grounds are being raised above the 500-year floodplain.
