BRIDGES & HIGHWAYS
MassDOT Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation
Developed detailed staging and phasing animations for the $305 million Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) design-build rehabilitation of the historic Longfellow Bridge. When complete, the bridge will be AASHTO-compliant and have improved pedestrian and bicycle access, without compromising its historic appearance. Coordinated work with the team’s traffic engineers and still 3-D renderings and 3D staging and phasing construction animations to show how the bridge operation works with the different phases of construction which greatly helped the engineers and the client to understand the complex staging and phasing of the project. Also prepared visualizations of the new pedestrian bridge that was a component of this project so that the client and team architects could better evaluate options.
MassDOT Belden Bly Bridge Replacement
Developed 3-D concepts and renderings for replacement of the Belden Bly Bascule Bridge, which carries Route 107 over the Saugus River between Lynn and Saugus, MA. Similar to the historic 1913 structure, the new bridge will have three spans, but with a 77-foot-long movable span that will pivot on a heel-trunnion. Provided the design for the schematic concept of the proposed bridge’s machine house in collaboration with the structural engineer and prepared an animation that helped the design team and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) visualize how the new movable span would operate.
MassDOT Fore River Bridge Replacement
Developed 3-D renderings for the $245 million Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) project to build a permanent replacement of the Fore River Bridge on State Route 3A between Quincy and Weymouth, MA. Produced renderings of conceptual design options as well as an animation of a new movable bridge that were used at project meetings and helped the client identify a preferred scheme that the design team advanced to prepare design-build bridging documents. Developed the 3-D simulation of the bridge to detect potential component interference. Set of 3-D renderings offered perspective and elevation views of the bridge for each option presented.
PANYNJ George Washington Bridge Bike/Walkway Safety Program
Developed 3-D renderings of various options for the installation of safety fencing along the pedestrian/bicycle lanes on the upper level of the George Washington Bridge between Manhattan, NY, and Fort Lee, NJ, for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). In addition to the new fencing, Prepared designs for other safety and security enhancements that included CCTV, emergency telephones, and lighting upgrades. He also provided designs to advance the preferred safety program alternative.
